Weeping Stone of Illesi
[TheChamp-Sharing]The famous Weeping Stone of Maragoli also known as The Weeping Stone of Illesi is located not far from Kakamega.
This rock produces a continous stream of spring water which flows on the sides giving rise to many varied local legends. The landmark consists of a large rock resting on top of a huge pillar of rock eight meters high. The structure is supposed to look like a sad head falling on weary shoulders and from the to tears flow the length of the column.
Legend has it that the tears never stop flowing . The stone is stained a dark green color from many years of weeping.
The scientific explanation for this is that there is a hidden reservoir at the top of the stone head. As the void fills the water slowly seeps through small cracks and rolls down the sides of the rock in the form of green teras. Even though it may not rain for many weeks, the water continues to seep down due to the moss growning inside the cracks that soak up the water
