Meru National Park in Kenya
Detailed Information
Listing Description

Meru National Park is the cornerstone of Meru conservation area, 4,000sq km in size, adjacent to Kora National Park and Bisanadi.  This is one of the most geographically diverse parks in Kenya and a favorite with the safari cognoscenti.  You would have to spend a few days here to really enjoy what the park has to offer.

The main wildlife here is elephant and rhinos. Due to the large poaching in the 1980’s there was a reduction in elephant population before local and foreign conservation efforts kicked in and sealed off the park.   However, the elephant population is slowly recovering but the increase in vegetation cover makes it a bit of a challenge to easily spot wildlife.

Most road junctions are numbered although to easily navigate the park you need a Kenya’s Meru National Park map that can be bought at the Kenya Wildlife Service headquarters.  Use of a Four Wheel Drive is highly advisable and recommended for its terrain.
