Marafa Depression - Hell's Kitchen

Marafa Depression is a canyon or geological irregularity located in Malindi.   It is also called Hell’s Kitchen or Nyari meaning the place broken by itself.  With time, the sun, wind, rain and floods have weathered the sandstone into a set of gorges.

Marafa Depression has a unique set of exposed layer-like-cake colors on the sandstone that reveals whites, pinks, oranges and deep crimsons.  It is this exposed glistening sandstone that makes Marafa Depression a truly magical place to see at sunset.

Another venue also referred to as Hell’s Kitchen is a section of the gorges at Hell’s Gate National Park in Naivasha that sometimes emits heated streams flowing along the cracks.
