Lake Magadi

Lake Magadi is located in Magadi Town 120km South West of Nairobi which is about 2 hours drive.  It is a soda lake of about 104sq km and is completely surrounded by natural salt flats.

Magadi town is generally an area with a very hot climate and lies at the lake’s east shore which is home to Magadi Soda Factory.  The factory produces soda ash which has a wide range of industrial uses for both local use and export.

The thick coating of soda combined with shimmering heat haze at the horizon and bright sunlight gives Lake Magadi and the surrounding landscape an intensely bright and out of this world appearance.

Thousands of flamingos and other bird species descend on the lake on the elevated mud mounds as well as the fresh water springs at the lake’s shore.
