Italian Church along Mai Mahiu Road
[TheChamp-Sharing]The Italian Church along Mai Mahiu road leading to Narok and Naivasha was built by Italian Prisoners of War during the second world war in 1942. It is a small and beautiful church with Italian inscriptions inside and it has its grounds and interior maintained regularly by a caretaker.
The British Colonialists who were the masters to the Italian prisoners were compassionate enough to allow them to build a church as they also built the treacherous Mai Mahiu road. The British were Anglicans and the Italians were Roman Catholics hence the prisoners needed their own place of worship. During their break they could go to pray in this church.
People passing along this route come here to pray and also pay their homage to the Italian prisoners who built this magnificent structure that has stood the test of time. Definitely a little piece of Italy at the heart of Kenya.
