The Lord Egerton Castle in Kenya
Detailed Information
Listing Description

The Lord Egerton Castle is located in Nakuru about 14 kilometres from Nakuru Town.  It is nearly a century old majestic building built by the Lord Egerton from 1938 to 1954.

The main history behind the construction of the castle was prompted after his fiancee rejected his proposal citing that Lord Egerton lived in very traditional quarters inspired by African culture despite his vast wealth which was far from her expectations having been raised in a castle.  He neither married nor got a heir.

Lord Maurice Egerton was a colonial settler, fourth Baron of Tatton, born in 1874 and died on January 30 1958, four years after completing his castle.  He was the last son of Alande Tatton (1845 – 1920) the third Baron Egerton of Tatton and Lady Anna LouisiaTaylor a keen photographer and gardener.

The Lord Egerton Castle is now managed by Egerton University as a tour site and the grounds are occasionally hired for events such as weddings.
