Mount Kenya National Park is located is located to the east of the Great Rift Valley, about 175km North-East of Nairobi.   It is the second highest mountain in Africa after Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.  Initially it was a forest reserve before being announced as a national park. Currently the Mount Kenya National park is within the forest reserve which encircles it.

Mount Kenya which was derived from Kirinyaga (Kirinyaga) – a Kikuyu name which literally translates to ‘God’s Resting Place’ or ‘Where God Lives’

Mount Kenya National Park is part of the National Parks in Kenya under The Kenya Wildlife Service management.
