Longonot National Park in Kenya
Detailed Information
Listing Description

Longonot National Park is located southeast of Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya, in Nakuru county.  It is named after the Longonot Mountain found in this park.

Although Longonot Mountain is an old volcano, there are still some active spots.   At some points on the inner crater rim it may be possible to see some steam jets.

Apart from wildlife viewing and hiking up the mountain, it is possible to do overnight camping in the park but one has to first check with park personnel first.

Tips

  1. Visitors are advised to be accompanied by a ranger at all times and especially if wishing to descend the crater.
  2. Start Clockwise as it will be easier to descend while winding up
  3. Start early to avoid alot of heat during noon.
  4. Give yourself allowance when trekking the mountain before completion

Longonot National Park is protected and managed by the Kenya Wildlife Service as part of Mount Longonot Mountain.
